Nick Cenci and I met over our cups of hot black caffeine Wednesday morning, December 6 at North Market. Similarly to my Dec. 1 interview with Ralph Leeseberg, also at North Market, Nick has been a working musician, drumming in a band back in the ’70s. Retired now, he worked for years doing video recording and production and still maintains a recording studio. And we discovered that we have known several people in common over the past four decades.
I start these interviews with a fundamental question: WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR/WHAT PERSONAL VALUES ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE?
Nick: I describe myself as a HUMANIST, empathetic, flexible in attitude, liberal of views, I believe in the innate goodness of people, and in practicing the Golden Rule. As horrible as some events can be, I experience the positively of life.
Q-2: WHAT CAN WE DO IN OUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT SPREADS THE GOOD TO OTHERS?
NC: It’s more than merely being nice to folks, I need to actively do positive actions, with intention, and to keep my emotional health together.
Q-3: WHAT PERSONAL MISSION INSPIRES YOU?
NC: I volunteer.
Q-4: WHAT ACT OR PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW? HOW ARE YOU CHANGING YOUR WORLD?
NC: I sometimes play music in a trio at an assisted living facility. Here’s a story- there was a woman patient that the attendants reported almost never talked to anyone…aids, visitors, staff. She may have Alzheimer’s, I’m not sure. But I noticed that when we played she would mouth the lyrics to every song we played. I see that as a human connection.
Q-4: HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH UNCERTAINTY? Q-5: HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AS WITHIN YOUR CONTROL, IN FIVE YEARS, IN 2022? Q-6: HOW DO YOU ENVISION THE UNITED STATES, THE WORLD IN 2022?
Nick replied to all three of these questions at once; he’s worried, not on his own behalf, but on account of his grandchildren. He sees our world OUT OF WHACK!
That mostly concluded our meeting. Thanks so much for your time with me today, Nick, and your caring.
